CHICAGO -- Toyota boss Jim Press admits that many Toyota customers regard the current Tundra pickup as a "city truck." And its buttoned-down looks turn few heads in Marlboro country.Now Toyota wants real truckers to know that the redesigned 2007 Tundra is not for wimps. But convincing them will be another matter.

The redesigned pickup, with more power, more towing capacity and a brawny design, is scheduled to go on sale around Jan. 1, 2007. It was unveiled last week at the Chicago Auto Show.

learly, the design is impressive. Its massive chrome-trimmed snout, wide stance and fat wheel arches give it a bulldoggish attitude that the current Tundra can only dream of.

A 5.7-liter V-8 boosts towing capacity to more than 10,000 pounds -- big-league numbers in the full-sized pickup game. That engine will be teamed with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The redesigned pickup is 10 inches longer than its predecessor. It will come in more than 30 variations of powertrain, body style and trim, double those of the current Tundra's lineup.

Toyota will offer three engines: the 5.7-liter V-8, a 4.0-liter V-6 and a 4.7-liter V-8. Customers can choose from three cargo bed lengths, three trim levels and three cabs.

TOKYO -- Shares in Toyota Motor Corp. hit a record high on Friday, sending the automaker's market value above $200 billion -- more than that of U.S. retail giant Wal-Mart Stores -- and analysts said the issue could keep rising as profits look to grow even faster next year.

Climbing for the fourth session in five days, shares in Japan's top carmaker touched an all-time peak of $55.28 (6,560 yen) in early trade, putting its market capitalization -- a measure of how much investors believe a company is worth -- at $200.7 billion at current exchange rates.

"With the broader market and start-ups suffering right now, there's a flight to quality, and institutional and retail investors alike are looking for large-cap, blue-chip stocks that they feel are safe," he added.

With an arsenal of popular cars and a lean cost structure, Toyota has long dwarfed rival automakers in terms of market capitalization. By this yardstick it is now worth more than double the combined value of DaimlerChrysler AG, General Motors and Ford Motor Co.

"Interest in Toyota is high, and we think there's plenty of upside for the shares," Deutsche Securities analyst Tsuyoshi Mochimaru wrote in a report last week. Mochimaru has a "Buy" rating on Toyota, with a 12-month target price of 7,200 yen.

It was time to change the Cabin air filter in my Toyota and I knew it. What I didn't know is the location of the cabin air filter or even what I was looking for. The cabin air filter on most all Toyota vehicles is located behind the glove box. It only takes about 10 minutes to change but makes a to of difference and especially for me and my allergies.

Just remove and replace with new filter and you're good to go.

Looks like Toyota is growing up. The RAV4 is finally available with a 3.5L V-6 and 18" wheels. Finally I think this vehicle has reached its potential. Fun to drive but slightly under powered the new 3.5L should eliminate any complaints and may in fact create a vehicle platform that is even tuner worthy. I've always liked the lines of this little SUV but finally we may have something to build on.

Okay it wasn't the first thing but it was right up there. It looks like TRD is still in play as well despite all the rumors as a lot of TRD Product was on display including superchargers and exhaust components. Hybrids, diesels dominate economy list

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp.'s (7203.T) Corolla was the sole gasoline-only car to make a U.S. government list issued on Wednesday of the ten most fuel-efficient 2006 model vehicles.

The Corolla's 32 miles per gallon in the city and 41 miles per gallon on the highway earned it last place on the list of top fuel sippers that was otherwise dominated by gasoline-electric hybrids and diesels.

In a flashback to the 1980s, high gas prices pushed smaller cars to the top of the list of biggest percentage sales gains in September. Among the biggest gainers are models not normally in the limelight: Dodge Neon, Chevrolet Malibu and Nissan Sentra.

The five vehicles showing the biggest percentage increases in September over a year ago were all smaller cars, according to a USA TODAY analysis of Autodata sales figures for vehicles that sold at least 10,000 units. By contrast, four of the five biggest percentage losers were SUVs or pickups.

NEW YORK - Crude oil prices dropped Monday, led by falling gasoline futures as Hurricane Katrina relief efforts gained momentum and traders expected the high cost of gas at the pump to hamper demand.

Light sweet crude for October delivery fell $1.48 to $62.60 a barrel in midday trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gasoline futures tumbled more than 8 cents to $1.8775 a gallon, while heating oil fell more than 7 cents to $1.8200 a gallon.

Brent crude for October delivery fell $1.49 to $61.35 a barrel on the International Petroleum Exchange. According to AAA's daily fuel guage report, the average cost of a gallon of gasoline on Monday was just below $3. Full story.

Toyota Motor Corp., meanwhile, recalled 978,000 sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks over complaints that a rod linking the steering wheel and the wheels could fracture when the steering wheel is turned while the vehicle is stopped. The affected vehicles include the 1990-1995 4Runner SUV, 1989-1995 truck 4WD and 1993-1998 T-100 pickup.

Toyota said its recall would begin in mid-September and was based on seven confirmed cases of the power-steering problem in T100 vehicles. No crashes have been tied to the issue.

Toyota's profits were down 7 percent to $2.4 billion in the April-June period but the company is generally healthier than its U.S. rivals.

Toyota's U.S. sales were up 11.4 percent in the first eight months of this year, compared with an average increase of 3.5 percent for the Big Three. Car sales made up most of that increase. Sales of light trucks — including the 4Runner — were up only 2 percent.

Get better fuel mileage out of your Toyota or Scion!

With higher gas prices comes the inevitable gadgets and goodies promising higher gas mileage. The sad fact is, like diet pills and 6 second work outs; most of them just don't work or give minimal improvements. Hear are two things you can do to keep your fuel economy up and they really work.

1.) Tire Pressure to keep your fuel mileage up.
Keep your Toyota's tire pressure up to the recommended amount. More than 60% of the cars on the road today are running on under inflated tires. How much difference can that make in your Toyota? Here's an easy test. Inflate your bicycle tires to the recommended pressure and ride for a mile or two to get the feel of it. Now lower the tire pressure by 5-10% and do the same course again. You'll see how much more work it is. Now imagine what that's doing for your Toyota's fuel economy. Keep a tire pressure gauge in your Toyota and check your tire pressure every other fill up. You're wallet will thank you.

2.) Change your Toyota's air filter every 15,000 miles.
It�s the easiest way to keep your vehicle running at it's most efficient and also one of the most over looked maintenance items. You probably change your oil or have it done every 3000 to 5000 miles and that's excellent! You'll get years from your Toyota for doing so but how about that air filter. 5 more minutes could save you even more at the pump. A clogged air filter lessens air flow and causes a loss in power and in fuel economy. You Toyota or Scion actually has to work harder.

TOKYO (AFP) - Toyota and Honda were given the the go-ahead from Japan's transport authorities to market certain types of fuel-cell cars without limitation.

The two Japanese carmakers said they would aim to lease the environmentally friendly no-emission compact vehicles while stepping up efforts to lower costs for mass production in the future.

Honda said its FCX fuel-cell cars cost "hundreds of millions of yen" apiece at present. A hundred million yen is worth about 920,000 dollars.
Honda's FCX and Toyota's FCHV received "type certification", a seal of approval by the transport ministry for a certain type of vehicle, the two firms said.

Toyota said its FCHV cars, which can run 330 kilometers (206 miles) without refueling, would be leased to public offices as well as energy-related companies starting in July.

Honda said it had delivered 19 FCX fuel-cell vehicles, which can run 430 kilometers (270 miles) without refueling, in Japan and the United States since December 2002.
"It is an ultimate car that suits the environment," said senior Honda researcher Yozo Kami. "I believe the fuel-cell car will be absolutely necessary."

CAMARILLO, Calif. - The average gasoline price nationwide for all grades tumbled 6 cents in two weeks, continuing a slide in pump prices that began last month, an industry analyst said Sunday.

The average retail price for all three grades dropped 6.37 cents to $2.18 per gallon between May 6 and Friday, said Trilby Lundberg, who publishes the semimonthly Lundberg Survey of 7,000 gas stations around the country.

The most popular grade, self-serve regular, was priced at $2.15 a gallon, while customers paid $2.25 for midgrade. Premium averaged $2.35 a gallon for the period. Full story on gas prices...

Gasoline prices unlikely to budge

President Bush will lament the high price of gas in an energy policy speech this week but doesn't plan to promise an immediate solution.
"There's no magic wand that can reduce the price of gas overnight," says Dan Bartlett, Bush's counselor. "This is an issue that requires national debate as well as substantive change of policy and habits over time."
The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas is $2.25, according to the American Automobile Association's Web site, www.fuelgaugereport.com. A year ago it was $1.78.
Eventually, Bush said on April 8, Americans must change "the types of automobiles we drive." He has proposed spending $1.2 billion over five years to develop cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells. See full story

Neon Named most unsafe compact, but Corolla Tops List.

It seems Toyota has done it again, topping the list as the most safe compact car in side impacts. Dodge Neon was named worst.

Adrian Lund, the Insurance Institute's chief operating officer, said the least crashworthy of the vehicles was the aging Dodge Neon from DaimlerChrysler AG's U.S.-based Chrysler unit.

"This car is a disaster," Lund said of the Neon, which was tested without side airbags.

Lund noted that the Neon had also received the third-lowest rating of "marginal" in an earlier frontal crash test conducted by the Insurance Institute.

"If safety is a priority, the Neon is a small car to be avoided," he said.

In a report issued late on Sunday, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (news - web sites) said only Toyota Motor Corp. (news - web sites)'s Corolla and the Chevrolet Cobalt from General Motors Corp. performed well enough to earn its second-highest rating of "acceptable." See full story here...

Scion will offer a supercharged version of its tC sport coupe.
In an interview with Automotive News after his presentation at the J.D. Power and Associates International Automotive Roundtable on Friday, Scion Vice President Jim Farley said the Scion tC Supercharged should arrive around April.

The Scion tC will be the first vehicle sold by Toyota in the United States that will get a supercharged model produced by the factory, Farley said.

Toyota has recalled 22,228 new Toyota Tacoma pickups because the parking brake might not work, the company said Tuesday. The Tacoma is built at New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. in Fremont.

Tacomas from the 2005 model year with automatic transmissions are involved in the recall, which came after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received eight complaints. No injuries have been reported due to the defect, Toyota Motor spokesman John Hanson said.

Toyota said the lock nut on the parking brake cable might not have been properly tightened and can loosen and come off. If that happens, the vehicle could roll if it's stopped on a slope and the transmission isn't in park. Complete Story here.
